So, Cambridge are at the top still, Kidderminster are having a bit of a blip, Nuneaton are back in form following a horrible run, Luton's results in the last ten games are similar to ours, and just outside of the playoff places, there is a group of at least 6 teams waiting for the Mariners, or one of the above to implode so they can enter the play-off spots.
Alfreton in particular appear a little Jekyll and Hyde; except unlike Hyde who are consistent losers, Alfreton either win or lose, just one draw in 23. They've just beaten Kiddy, useful result for Town, but they recently lost to Nuneaton and Luton in their last 3. And they are somehow sixth despite a negative goal difference.
For GTFC, Thursday brings the Kidderminster game at BP, perhaps our second biggest test of the season so far. While we failed to beat Cambridge at home, http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24350591 I'd say it was one of the most entertaining league games at BP this season, marred only by LJL's penalty miss and an excellent goalkeeping display by Chris Maxwell. I suppose in hindsight getting a point at Luton was no mean feat in the circumstances too, but anyway, Kidderminster, stung by two recent defeats, will certainly be hoping to bounce back on Thursday.
Town remain, Liam Hearn aside of course :(, relatively injury-free, so Paul Hurst will have to consider which wide midfielders to select and maybe even think about whether he wants to use the free-scoring Southwell a bit more often. I wouldn't be surprised by him returning to the normal league XI, which probably means wholesale changes just to irritate me.....
The visitors, like Town, have a Cup run to distract them, having featured heavily on ITV's second round coverage for disposing of last season's play-off victors Newport easily. They play Peterborough in Round 3, so like Town again, they've avoid a glamour tie and may well fancy their chances to progress. More of a preview nearer Thursday if we get the chance!
