This event is one with a difference in that it is a one day physical activity for 2 Trust members, which is not being randomly carried out in a 'how can we raise funds? how about we climb a mountain?' manner, but is part of a wider Trust movement event. The Wrexham Supporters Trust (www.wst.org.uk) are celebrating 150 years of their club. (One of the oldest football clubs in Britain) Lately, they have commenced a new annual event namely climbing Snowdon to fund raise, to keep their club in existence.
This year they have broadened the event; by limiting their own numbers taking part to 150 and inviting a 150 guests from other football clubs. The Mariners Trust having been invited, opened this out to their members via email and our two volunteers are Dan Humphrey (Trust Board Member and often of this blog, Fifa nights etc..) and Pat Bell (who is a CodAlmighty chap and Trust member).
The event takes place on Sunday 29th June 2014.
The idea is; everyone meets at either Wrexham to be transported to Snowdon, or at Snowdon itself, then the walk takes place. Once everyone reaches the top of the mountain, they all have a quick rest, take many photos, and get much publicity local community football clubs, for Trusts working together, for lower league and non-league football.
(Quite timely with the recent Greg Dyke 'B' team/League 3 proposals, and the revelation that bottom placed Cardiff received £60million plus in TV money this year alone.)
So, importantly, there will be much fund raising! The idea is to raise funds for the club's youth system, to give us more chance of developing and retaining young talent in the vein of Caine Winfarrah, Paul Walker and Ellis Humble, each recently given their first pro contracts. So, please support the event by; donating a few quid, and getting your friends, family, colleagues, fellow Town fans to do the same.
We hope that every Trust member will donate, and if everyone who does gives say £3 (or more ;-)), we should raise a fair sum for the next batch of young players.
